Split Mobile Inc. ("Split Mobile," "Split," "we," "us," or "our") provides shared expense, reimbursement, wallet, payment, and payout features. This GDPR / EU Privacy Rights Notice explains additional rights and disclosures for users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or other regions with similar privacy laws. It supplements our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Split Mobile is currently intended primarily for use in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and by our service providers and payment partners.

Guests may pay through secure links without downloading the app or creating a full account. We may process:

Split Mobile does not generally store full payment card numbers or full bank account numbers. Payment and bank information is processed by third-party payment providers such as Stripe, Plaid, banks, card networks, or other providers where applicable.

4. Purposes and Legal Bases for Processing

We process personal data for the following purposes and legal bases:

  • Provide and operate Split Mobile— Contract performance; legitimate interests

  • Process guest payments, wallet balances, withdrawals, refunds, and payouts — Contract performance; legal obligations; legitimate interests
  • Provide customer support and transaction communications — Contract performance; legitimate interests

We may review transaction activity, receipts, payment history, device information, and supporting documentation to help ensure proper use of the platform and protect users, Split Mobile, and our payment partners.

5. How We Share Personal Data

A. Payment and Financial Partners

  • Stripe— payment processing, payouts, identity/risk review, dispute handling, and card-related services where available
  • Plaid, where applicable — bank account connectivity and verification

These partners support payment processing, wallet balances, payouts, refunds, disputes, identity and risk review, fraud prevention, compliance, and bank connectivity.

  • App infrastructure providers

Where Apple or Google are involved, this is generally limited to platform services such as Apple Pay, App Store, Google Pay, or app distribution through their respective app stores.

C. Other Split Participants

Certain information may be visible to people involved in the same split, such as:

  • Name
  • Expense title
  • Amount owed
  • Payment status
  • Receipt and item details
  • Notes or group activity related to the expense

D. Legal, Compliance, Safety, and Payment Partner Requests

We may share personal data to:

  • Comply with law
  • Respond to lawful requests
  • Enforce our Terms
  • Prevent fraud or misuse
  • Resolve refunds, disputes, chargebacks, failed payments, and account issues
  • Cooperate with payment partners, banks, card networks, regulators, or law enforcement

E. Business Transfers

If Split Mobile is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of its assets, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this notice or a successor policy.

F. No Sale of Personal Data

We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising unless clearly disclosed and permitted by law.

6. International Transfers

Because Split Mobile is based in the United States, personal data may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home jurisdiction.

Where required, Split relies on appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections, standard contractual clauses, or other lawful transfer mechanisms, as applicable.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to provide the Services, maintain accounts, process payments and payouts, provide support, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and protect platform safety.

Because Split Mobile involves payments and financial activity, we may retain certain transaction, payout, refund, dispute, chargeback, fraud prevention, risk review, tax, accounting, security, and compliance records for longer periods when required or reasonably necessary.

Deletion requests may not result in immediate deletion of records we are required or permitted to retain for legal, compliance, tax, fraud prevention, dispute, payment partner, banking, card network, or legitimate business purposes.

8. Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including:

  • Access controls
  • Encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate
  • Secure third-party payment providers
  • Monitoring for suspicious activity
  • Internal restrictions on access to sensitive data

We rely on security monitoring, access controls, and commercially reasonable safeguards. No system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

9. EU/UK Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the following rights:

  • Right of access— request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to correction / rectification— correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Right to deletion / erasure— request deletion of your data.
  • Right to restrict processing— limit how we process your data.
  • Right to object— object to certain processing activities.
  • Right to data portability— receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to withdraw consent— where processing is based on consent.
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — such as your local Data Protection Authority or the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Some requests may be limited where we need to retain information for legal, payment, fraud prevention, dispute, tax, security, compliance, or legitimate business purposes. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve any issues directly.

10. Marketing and Communications

Users may opt out of marketing emails by following the unsubscribe instructions or contacting us. Transactional or service-related messages, including payment, payout, security, support, and account notices, may still be sent where necessary.

11. Automated Decision-Making / Risk Reviews

Split Mobile and its payment partners may use automated or manual review tools to help detect fraud, unauthorized activity, suspicious transaction patterns, self-payment, artificial transaction volume, disputes, chargebacks, or violations of our Terms. These reviews may result in delayed payouts, additional documentation requests, refunds, reversals, account restrictions, or declined transactions.

12. Children's Data

Split Mobile is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

We may update this notice from time to time to reflect new legal requirements or product changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
